Welcome to the Hydrogen Village

About Hydrogen Village

Hydrogen Village is a new resource centre providing information, education and assistance to individuals and organizations seeking to develop hydrogen projects, or to adopt and use hydrogen technologies in their lives, businesses and communities.

Experts in energy systems analysis and professionals with hands-on experience are mobilized by the Hydrogen Village to advise clients and patrons in technologically practical and economically viable hydrogen initiatives.

This community-of-interest also informs the planning and implementation of the centre’s education and outreach programming, aimed at raising awareness and building understanding of the ways in which hydrogen and hydrogen technologies contribute to a sustainable, low-carbon society in Canada.

Workshop!
An Orientation to Hydrogen Systems for Fleet Operations

Hydrogen Village and Partners in Project Green present a 3 hour online workshop, to help fleet managers understand the opportunities and implications of integrating hydrogen systems into their operations to achieve net-zero vehicle emissions! The agenda provides a comprehensive introduction to the key issues.

Why Hydrogen

Hydrogen has potential to serve as a versatile, non-carbon fuel, capable of meeting society’s demands for power, heat and mobility to a significant degree.

Hydrogen can be produced from existing, developed energy sources, the supply chains for which can be progressively decarbonized.

Hydrogen has the potential to integrate with established energy infrastructure and modes of distribution.

Hydrogen in Action

Hydrogen has some amazing attributes including:

  • Its capacity to meet the demand for heat, power and mobility

  • The range of developed sources that can contribute to its supply, and

  • Its integration with existing infrastructure and distribution channels – make it a compelling option for decarbonization of energy systems.

While these attributes are driving investments in hydrogen systems globally, Canada has the potential to realize benefits that are particularly relevant to its national and regional circumstances.

First, hydrogen offers a pathway to decarbonization that is highly inclusive. Crucial roles must be played by established companies in resource extraction, power generation and manufacturing, among others, as well as by technology innovators and entrepreneurs.

Second, existing infrastructure and industrial assets need not be stranded, since hydrogen integrates with current systems. Hydrogen technologies build onto these systems, using them in ways that create new value as opposed to marginalizing their role or advancing their displacement.

Third, as a consequence of the previous two benefits, the hydrogen pathway is an option that can preserve current employment and create new jobs.

What is a Village?

Villages are where community and cooperation happen. Sociable and supportive, villagers apply their skills collaboratively to create a shared prosperity.

The Hydrogen Village has been created to help make hydrogen systems a locally-led, community-based solution to climate change.
